If you’re not familiar with the brand, it might be because it’s more popular on this side of the world. Here are some outfit ideas accompanied with athletic footwear that we here in Paris recommend you American’s start trying: They can walk all around the city without complaining about their feet hurting, which we tend to do all too much, and still look chic. At first, I wasn’t sure what to think about this European style, but if you think about it, they get the best of both worlds. They look stylish in their skinny, cuffed pants, button down shirt, and Nikes to match. Typically, us Americans leave these shoes for the gym, or to at least pretend we work out. In the States, you usually wouldn’t find an American decked out in street wear while wearing neon Nikes. One shoe trend that has recently stomped the streets is athletic footwear. Instead of hiding your feet from the cold in boots, both short and tall, Parisians now find themselves showing a little skin, in the feet area that is. It’s April, and you know what that means. Local to Paris? Check out the numerous vintage stores on Rambuteau in the 4th arrondissement, they have a lot of offer. Heck, even ask your mom if she has one hidden somewhere in her closet, I wouldn’t be surprised if she did. So instead of checking out your local Zara or H&M for one that nearly every other person on this planet owns, try a vintage or thrift store. Seeing as jean jackets ruled the world at some point prior to the present, vintage stores are selling jean jackets from over the decades. What’s even better is, you can find your very own one-of-a-kind jean jacket. You can sport them with dresses, skirts, shorts, basically anything you can imagine. Even jeans, if you do the whole denim-on-demin thing right, that is. The beautiful thing about this fashion piece is they go with everything. So instead of breaking out your coat or cardigan to combat this post-winter chill, try rocking a jean jacket instead. In fact, it has been for awhile, at least for us in America. I know some might reply “That’s so 90’s” but have you not seen the copious amounts of jean jackets for sale as you pass the vintage shops around here?! Yes, the trend is back. Although we haven’t quite hit the summer transition over here in the city of lights, you can still dress the part. I know I shouldn’t be complaining, but seasonal change is refreshing. Over on the Golden Coast, we’re constantly in a summer daze. Unlike California, Paris has real winters and real summers. The beautiful thing about Paris is it has ACTUAL seasons. They look tacky and cheap, so remain chic and leave those behind! Jennifer Aniston may pull them off, but as there are no beaches in Paris, and they don’t quite fit in with the edgy-sophisticated-black-on-black style of this city, opt for a different style.Īlso, it is always a no-no to sport white sunglasses. These shades are everywhere- the only thing women in Paris love to do more than drinking wine with every meal, is sporting a red lip with black shades that cover half their face. Although some Parisians are adopting the beachy Ray-Ban look, it is more common in Paris to see chunky, black sunglasses. I have sported this fashion faux-pas may times in Paris because I can’t stand to neglect my favorite California style sunnies, but I have made it a mission to mostly stick to the alternate Paris look. One of the #1 ways to stand out as a tourist is to sport a pair of Ray-Ban aviators. There is a very apparent difference between the sunglasses that are seen in California and those seen in Paris.
